BOCA RATON, Fla. - Lynn University’s athletic department and Christine’s Hope of Kids partnered together April 21, 2011 to bring Easter joy to kids at the Chris Evert Children’s Hospital at Broward General. Fighting Knights student-athletes were represented in passing out Easter baskets filled with stuffed animals, games, candy and eggs to the hospitalized children and their families.
This was the second consecutive year that the Blue & White joined with this organization in honor of Christine Gianacaci, who was one of the six Lynn University students and faculty on the Journey of Hope lost in the tragic earthquake that shook Haiti on January 12, 2010. Three years ago Gianacaci purchased a Big LU party at the Lynn Blue & White Auction and coordinated with Lynn’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee to carry out her initiative to help children.
“This is always a very memorable event, as we are visiting children who suffer from anything from a life threatening illnesses to a broken bone. Whatever their aliment is, they are always so excited to see us,” said volleyball student-athlete Kara Bailey. “The tradition we have started in honor of Christine will live on for a very long time here at Lynn University. We will always look forward to this day each year.”
Lynn University’s athletic department is committed to carrying on this project every year in conjunction with the Christine’s Hope for Kids Foundation and their mission of “One child at a time, one smile at a time, will make a difference to last a lifetime.” For more information on this organization, visit www.christineshope.org
Joining Bailey in attendance was baseball student-athlete Danny Herzog, women’s golfers Rebecca Mangone, AJ Van den Bosch, and Ellen Chambers, men’s basketball players Michael Woo and Josh Garcia, men’s soccer athletes Heiko Eerhardt, Harald Gracholski, Philipp Uttikal, and Martin Wehlert, Director of Student-Athlete Services Sara Quatrocky and Director of Marketing and Corporate Relations Jon Roos.
“Christine would love this event and we know that she is there in spirit,” said Woo.
